Web Development Principles
The quality of your website matters
Usability is key for engaging customers and driving leads. A great user experience will help your customers to navigate your website, locate information, convert, and encourage them to come back to your website time and time again. The key to achieving this is combination of a well thought out user journey, a website built for technical SEO, optimised for speed, and accessible to all.
Our Web Developers and Designers work together with the SEO team from the initial planning stage of web builds to ensure that all of these factors are considered at the core of all of our web builds.

Accessibility at the foundation of all builds
Accessibility on the web doesn’t just mean that people with disabilities can use your website, it means everyone can: whether they have fast or slow connection; are on a desktop or a mobile with a cup of coffee in their hand; are deaf or blind; are using mouse, a touch screen, or a keyboard to navigate. We try to keep all users, their situations, and their preferences in mind.
Our websites are designed and built with an aim to meet the AA level WCAG requirements, and are reviewed each step of the way to ensure they are on track to meet these standards. Once the build phase is complete our websites are put through both automated and manual accessibility checks by our QA testers.

Built for SEO
We work closely with the SEO department to make sure that we build websites which have excellent technical SEO from the start and are structured to support ongoing SEO strategies. That means
- conducting UX audits on existing sites, and analysing competitor sites and using this research to inform our site structures and wireframes
- keeping all the content controllable from the CMS, including being able to adjust and maintain appropriate heading structure
- installing and setting up Yoast on all WordPress sites so you have total control over your titles and meta descriptions

Core web vitals
Core Web Vitals are a way to measure the user experience of a page. There are three Core Web Vitals:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
- First Input Delay (FID)
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
As of mid-June 2021, Google has started using Core Web Vitals to inform website ranking so they are not just important for improving User Experience, they’re key for SEO. We maximise our websites performances by optimising for speed from the ground up, utilising slim code and adding in supporting plugins when needed.

Fully responsive
We build all of our websites to work across all devices sizes – from wide screen desktops, to the smallest mobile and everything in between. We test every page from 320px to 2560px
We provide seamlessly responsive websites across all sizes, ensuring the same high quality user experience no matter the device.

Supported across modern browsers and devices
Our experienced web developers keep up to date with the latest browser and device capabilities, while remaining informed about legacy issues. We test all of our builds on the latest versions of the following browsers and devices:
- Desktop
- Safari
- Firefox
- Chrome
- Edge
- Mobile
- ios → Safari
- Android → Chrome

Easy to manage CMS
We believe you should be able to manage your own website if you want to. We keep our CMS structures simple and clearly landmarked so you get full control over your content. This means creating a bespoke theme to meet your individual requirements and branding, and providing support and training so you can feel confident.
